(Trying a new introductory banner that I'll be putting on top of the blog posts now. I do not know if this will appear on email or not.)
17-24:
17 But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God 18 and know his will and approve what is excellent, because you are instructed from the law; 19 and if you are sure that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— 21 you then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? While you preach against stealing, do you steal? If you are teaching others, and go against what you teach, then who are you to teach?
Jesus said: If a blind man follows a blind guide, they will both fall into a pit. (Matthew 15:14)
So if your going against what you teach, so will the person your trying to teach will also go against what you teach.
22 You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law.By bragging in the law, when you break it, you not only dishonor the law, but you dishonor God.
24 For, as it is written, “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”Since we Gentiles, are/were new to the gospel, we saw how the Jews acted with the law and thought that they don't act like they have a clue what they are doing. So of course we weren't going to want to follow if the people who should've been following acted like they had no idea how to act.
